Agafay Desert from Marrakech

Located about thirty kilometers from Marrakech, the Agafay desert is one of the most beautiful natural sites perfectly nestled on the plateaus of the High Atlas for those seeking calm and serenity.

This desert pearl of the ocher city, extends over several hectares at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, a perfectly barren landscape of stones and rocks offers you an immense panoramic view of the dunes and mountains.

To take full advantage of the natural beauty of the Agafay Desert, we have designed a special program to guarantee you a total change of scenery:

As soon as you leave Marrakech in the direction of Amizmiz, enjoy the charm of the Haouz plains and the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas, before arriving at the desert camp made up of several comfortable and spacious caidal tents, Berber carpets and handcrafted lanterns… A charming bivouac and an environment where life is good.

To discover the magic of the desert, you will also be invited to a one-hour camel ride in the desert.

In the morning, after breakfast, you will make a short visit to the charming Takerkoust Lake, located a few kilometers from Agafay, before returning to Marrakech.

What to do in Agafay Desert?

The Agafay Desert is located approximately 1 hour by car from Marrakech and covers several hundred hectares.
For several years it has become the essential place to visit if you come to Marrakech.
The landscapes are impressive with rocky (and not sand!) dunes and a breathtaking view of the mountains during the winter.
To get there we advise you to go there with a van or a 4×4 driver, the roads are sometimes poorly indicated, narrow and difficult to access.
Also, the city’s “little taxis” aren’t allowed to take you there.
We can book transport for you for €70 return.

Spend the night in a camp:

Enjoy an exceptional night in one of the desert camps in Agafay. You will be able to choose between different types of accommodation: domes, lodges or tents, prices vary between 150 and 500 euros per night depending on the camp. You will have the opportunity to admire the magnificent sunsets and dine under the beautiful starry sky of Agafay.
However, we advise you not to stay in the Agafay Desert for more than one night as you risk getting bored there if your stay is too long.
The nights are cool between November and March, but most have heating in the bedrooms.

Spend a day at the pool with lunch:

Do you lack time during your stay and prefer to just spend the day there? This is also a great option.
We offer a selection of camps that offer day passes (pool and lunch or dinner) with panoramic desert views. The menus are mainly Moroccan in the fields and the prices vary between 45 and 55 euros or so for the day pass.

Quad IN THE AGAFAY DESERT:

Enjoy an unforgettable 2-hour quad bike ride and discover the most beautiful landscapes of the Agafay Desert. You will be accompanied by a guide who will take you on the private ride. Several stops will be offered for taking photos and for a tea break in a traditional bivouac. Your guide can pick you up from one of the desert camps if you’re already there!

Camel ride:

Escape to the heart of Agafay on the back of a camel for a unique experience. You will be entitled to the traditional tea break after the 1-hour ride. The activity is perfect for discovering the desert with family or friends!
