This is a tour that includes the desert and can be customized if you wish to shorten your stay. Our “Essence of Morocco” tour welcomes you to a land of the senses, an exotic place with hidden secrets and depths, unlike anything else in the contemporary North African world. It offers you a true sense of southern Morocco and offers insights into many of the country’s various incredible destinations and unforgettable attractions.

This Morocco tour from Marrakech features unusual and magnificent architecture found only in central and southern Morocco. It also includes a spectacular road trip to the Moroccan Sahara with an extended stay in the imperial city of Marrakech and a relaxing visit to the Atlantic coastal city of Essaouira.

As you travel south to our home region, you have the opportunity to meet all kinds of interesting people and make discoveries in unique landscapes in southern Morocco, including an off-the-beaten track adventure in the desert and a camping experience in the desert at the foot of the imposing dunes of Erg Chigaga. Upon exiting the Sahara, you will follow, in part, the old Paris-Dakar rally route and the historic camel trade caravan tracks that once crossed this desert region to Mali and Timbuktu. Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

We meet at the Menera airport. Transfer to your accommodation. Today will be determined by your arrival flight. Approximately 3 hours Caleche/horse ride around the city. 1 night in Marrakech with dinner and breakfast included.

Day 2: Marrakesh.

Full day historical and cultural city guided tour. We meet at your accommodation after breakfast at a time of your choosing. Meeting with the private local guide of Marrakech. Walking tour around the Koutoubia Mosque area and gardens. Visit the beautiful Bahia Palace with mosaics and Pashas Hareem. Stroll among the richly tiled Saadian Tombs. Explore the vast ruined palace of El Badi. Lunch in the oldest restored artisan Riad of the Medina. Marvel at the skill of the craftsman at the tranquil Ben Youssef Madrasa. Explore an Aladdin's souk cave in the UNESCO Medina. Photography stops at will. Return to your accommodation in the late afternoon/early evening. 1 night in Marrakech with dinner and breakfast included.

day 3: day tour from marrakech to ourika valley.

Gardens, Kasbahs and mint tea. We meet at your accommodation after breakfast. Escape the city today with an approximately 50-minute drive to the Ourika Valley. Visit the unique Anima Garden filled with colorful art installations. For the pleasure of taking a relaxing outdoor herbal footbath, visit Jardin-bio aromatique. Visit a Berber family home to participate in an informal mint tea ceremony. Scenic drive in the Ourika River valley. In Ourika the tagine cafes place tables and chairs in the shallow riverbed. Journey to a mountain village to reach Kasbah Bab Ourika for lunch and afternoon relaxation. Kasbah Bab Ourika offers panoramic postcard views of the valley below. Photography stops at will. Return to your accommodation by approximately late afternoon/early evening. 1 night in Marrakech with dinner and breakfast included.

Day 4: Marrakech

Designer gardens and heavenly scents. We meet at your accommodation after breakfast. Short drive in the new city of Marrakech (Gueliz) to visit the Yves St Laurent complex. The complex includes the Majorelle Gardens with courtyard café, shop and Berber exhibition. Also the Yves St Laurent Museum with courtyard café housed in a new contemporary building. Visit Le Jardin Secret the recently restored Islamic garden “hidden” in the Medina. After lunch, return to your accommodation if you wish to freshen up. Take a short drive to the iconic Mamounia Hotel & Gardens for an optional afternoon tea. Alternatively, free time as you like. We have not included dinner if you wish to visit a restaurant in the city. 1 night in Marrakech with breakfast included.

day 5: from Marrakech to the oasis of Tamassint

Crossing the High Atlas Mountains to the south. We meet at your accommodation after breakfast. Drive through the High Atlas Mountains and the Tichka Pass. Visit the distressed but highly decorative Kasbah Telouet. Explore the UNESCO and international film location Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. Optional visit to the Berber cooperative bakery. Lunch in the Ait Ben Haddou area. Photo stops and refreshments at will. Arrival in Tamassint in the late afternoon. 1 Night Tamassint Oasis Including Dinner and Breakfast.

Day 6: Oasis of Tamissaint in Zagora.

In oases lined with date palms. We meet a little later today at your accommodation for you to relax. Visit the international film location city of Ouarzazate. Meet a local professional guide for a short walking tour of the Agdz Palmerie. Lunch at Kasbah Tammougalt with panoramic view. Scenic drive through the Draa valley lined with date palms and crumbling Kasbahs. Photo stops and refreshments at will. Arrive in our hometown of Zagora around mid/late afternoon. 1 night in Zagora with dinner and breakfast included

Day 7: Zagora to Erg Chigaga luxury camp.

Sand castle villages and Sahara. We meet at your accommodation after breakfast. Guided walking tour of Zagora Palmerie. An optional visit to the Saharan silversmiths. Meeting with the local Tamegroute guide. Exploration of Kasbah Tamegroute, still home to several families. Visit the unique Tamegroute handcrafted pottery with outdoor kilns. Visit the Ksar Ouled Driss Museum displaying traditional Saharan household items. Lunch in the Saharan city of M'hamid where the asphalt ends. Ahead is only the desert. 60km unmarked Desert Piste adventure drive in Chigaga field. Arrival at the camp in the late afternoon. Photography stops at will. Optional Sunset climb of impressive dunes. Day 8: Erg Chigaga to Foum Zguid.

Adventures in the desert. A relaxing morning spent at Camp. Optional early rise for a sunrise climb of the dunes. Optional informal sandboarding. Encounter with camels and guide. Approximately 3 hours camel ride around the Dune sets. Lunch at the camp or during the trek. After lunch transfer by 4×4 and exit from the Sahara. 90 km unmarked route in the desert following the dry lake of Iriki on dunes and tracks. Exit continues following partly the old route of the Paris Dakar rally. Arrive at Foum Zguid in the late afternoon/early evening. Photo stops and refreshments at will. 1 night in Foum Zguid with dinner and breakfast included.

Day 9: Foum Zguid a Taroudant.

Follow the ancient camel trade routes. We meet at your accommodation after breakfast. Scenic drive through scenic and remote post-desert landscapes. Visit the colorful Berber carpet manufacturing town of Tazenakht. Journey to the mountainous region of Morocco where saffron is grown. Unique visit to the saffron cooperative in the traditional mountain village of Taliouine. Enjoy a traditional village lunch. After lunch journey to the majestic city of Taroudant. Arrival in Taroudant in the late afternoon. In the early evening horse-drawn carriage ride around the city. This is a relaxing way to see the walled city, especially after a journey through the desert. Photo stops and refreshments at will. 1 Night Taroudant Including Dinner and Breakfast.

Giorno 10: Taroudant to Essaouira

Road to the Atlantic. We meet at your accommodation after breakfast. Meet the private local and professional Taroudant guide. Visit Medina, the markets and souks of Taroudant. After lunch departure from Taroudant for the coastal journey to Essaouira. Photo stops and refreshments at will. Arrival in Essaouira in the late afternoon/early evening. 1 night in Essaouira with dinner and breakfast included.

Day 11: Essaouira.

Trade winds and sea salt in the air. Today we meet at your accommodation mid-morning to allow us some relaxation. Meet your private and local guide for a walking tour of the UNESCO port city. Stroll along the ancient ramparts overlooking the Atlantic and the wide sandy bay. Director Orson Wells shot scenes from "Othello" on the ramparts. More recently scenes from the TV series "Game Of Thrones" were filmed in this location. Visit the artisans who craft their wares under the ramparts. Visit a fish market to choose your lunch of the day. Your choice of fish is then cooked at a local rooftop cafe. After lunch, you may want to have some free time to explore the Medina and souks. Here the Medina is much more relaxed than in Marrakech. You may also want to visit the many art galleries, artisan shops and numerous outdoor cafés. We return to your accommodation at a time of your choice. Photo stops and refreshments at will. Day 12: Essaouira.

Moroccan wines and music. We meet at your accommodation after breakfast. Visit the wilder coast of Diabet a short drive from Essaouira. Musician Jimi Hendrix lived here for a short while. Visit a colorful beach bar that pays homage to the musician. Optional 1 hour of horse or camel riding along the beach. Visit the only winery in southern Morocco. Lunch of authentic dishes of the region in the cellar restaurant. Optional tasting of the wines of the cellar. After lunch enjoy some intercourse in the vineyard grounds and garden. Return to your accommodation in the mid/late afternoon. Photo stops and refreshments at will. Day 13: Essaouira.

Free as a seabird Full day of relaxation. Whoopee no plans today! Alternatively, we are happy to arrange whatever you choose. 1 night in Essaouira with dinner and breakfast included.

Day 14: Essaouira to Marrakech

Argan oil and herds of goats. We will meet you at your accommodation at a time of your choosing. Today we return to Marrakech. Visit a quality culinary cooperative and argan oil. An optional lunch at the goat cheese factory. Watch out for the goats perched in the Argan trees. Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon. We have not included dinner if you wish to visit a restaurant in the city. 1 night in Marrakech with breakfast included.

Day 15: Transfer from the airport to Marrakech or Casablanca.

Today's day will be determined by your departure flight. Please allow 45 minutes to arrive at Marrakech Menera Airport plus 2.5 hours before your flight. Allow 3 hours to arrive at Casablanca airport plus at least 2.5 hours before your departure flight. Let's say goodbye, Bislema!
