On this day trip to Ait Ben Haddou from Marrakech you will have the pleasure of seeing the countryside south of Marrakech. The Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is the best preserved Kasbah in Morocco. More like a city built with many smaller kasbahs, Ait Ben Haddo Kasbah is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A 14th-century fortified hilltop village, Ait Ben Haddou was once on the old caravan route between Marrakech and the Sahara. The Kasbah itself has been featured in a number of films. As the families that originally lived in the Kasbah have moved to find more modern amenities, an entire village has grown up around this beautiful structure, just across the river bed. You will start your Ait Ben Haddou day trip from Marrakech with a 9am departure from your accommodation. Leaving Marrakech you will cross the High Atlas Mountains over the Tizi n' Tichka pass, which is a winding mountain road that exposes extraordinary landscapes at every turn. Stop at the top of the pass at 2160m and have a look over the valley. A little further on you reach the fortified Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou with a stop to discover the charm and interest of this beautiful and very well preserved Kasbah. Crossing the riverbed, one can climb the winding narrow streets and paths of the ruins to the granary at the top. Enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. After this stop you will continue to neighboring Ouarzazate. This city is the gateway to the desert and the center of the film industry in Morocco. Visit the Taourirt Kasbah and its spectacular building with a long history of the Glaoui dynasty. Return to Marrakech past the Telout Kasbah, located on a different road. Pass by the salt marshes and see a more rural and undisturbed part of this mountainous area. Stop in the Telouet Kasbah for a tour and an opportunity to further understand the impact of the Glaoui dynasty on Morocco. In the afternoon, you will have the option to return to Marrakech to your accommodation, arriving in time to enjoy an evening in the bustling city.
Is it worth visiting Ouarzazate? In short, Ouarzazate is worth a visit as it serves as the gateway to the Sahara desert. Most Sahara desert tours will pass through Ouarzazate both on the way to and from Merzouga, the famous desert city.
