A tour that will take you from your hotel in Marrakech and introduce you to the desert, villages and mountainous regions of the great Moroccan Sahara. In this 4 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga you will experience high mountain passes where you will see panoramas for several kilometres, Kasbahs, a camel trek in Merzouga on Erg Chebbi dunes.
There is nothing more spectacular than an overnight stay in a Bedouin camp in the desert. This allows you and the shared party have the chance to look up at the sky with stars, watch the sunset and get up on a camel ride and see hundreds of Kasbahs.
The first day of the tour goes from Marrakech over the High Atlas Mountains with steep and winding roads, crossing the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2260m above the sea level. The high mountain pass offers a breathtaking view of the mountain landscapes. After crossing the mountains we will reach one of the highlights of the tour – the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait ben Haddou. It is a fortified village along the ancient caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Due to its ancient historical appearance, a number of world-famous films shot in Morocco have used Ait ben Haddou as a location. The route continues through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. The first night is spent in a hotel in the Dades Valley.
Day two of this adventure begins with a hearty breakfast at your hotel before taking the four-hour drive to Merzouga. En route there will be the option to stop at the small town of Tinghir, take a walk through the Todra oasis and then over the canyons before visiting two more towns at Erfoud and Rissani. When we arrive at our destination in Merzouga, we will meet a camel caravan. At this point there will be a one hour ride through the Erg Chebbi dunes where the trek will coincide with the setting of the Saharan sun. We will then camp in a Bedouin camp in the desert.
The third day of this intrepid Moroccan desert tour will see us enjoying Merzouga. We will have breakfast at the hotel, an opportunity to swim in the hotel pool, free time to explore the activities offered in the desert area and enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel with a fine dinner to end the day. There are many activities such as quad biking, dune buggy riding and cycling but these will be at your own expense.
A long journey of about 9 hours awaits us as we return to Marrakech. The day starts with breakfast and en route there will be a stop in the city of Ouarzazate for lunch. We arrive in Marrakech around 7pm.
